Exploring the rocks behind the farmhouse we came across a big patch of wild growing strawberries. The berries on these guys are rather large compared to other wild strawberries that we have found on the property, perhaps its because these are on a Southeast facing slope and all the others we have found are on Northwest facing ones. More likely its strawberries someone planted here in the past that have simply taken over the space. It doesn’t look as though there has ever been a garden here, the ground is much too hard and full of clay, nor are there any of the tell tale signs of tilling. They were hard to find as the spot is also full of golden rod plants, and wild raspberries. The raspberry plants are prolific but they really don’t look like they produce much in the way of berries.
